I’m a public relations professional who has a passion for writing and content creation for print and web-based media. I have more than six years of experience in nonprofit public relations and professional writing, primarily in the health-care industry. I’m dedicated to building relationships between businesses and consumers as well as finding and applying best practices to enhance organizations’ reputations and therefore, their bottom lines.
I received my Master of Arts in Professional Writing, Concentration in Public Relations, from the University of Massachusetts – Dartmouth. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Communication, with a Concentration in Advertising and a Minor in English, from Boston University, where I graduated magna cum laude.
Since Sept. 2007, I have worked as the Public Relations Specialist at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, Mass. There, I’m responsible for writing everything from employee newsletters and press releases, to annual reports, health columns and website articles. I received five consecutive “Gold” awards from a regional professional society for health-care communications, for articles and promotional campaigns. Campaigns I have planned and implemented have raised awareness of health issues, introduced new technologies and procedures to the public and increased patient volume for hospital services.
While interested in all aspects of public relations, I have taken a special interest in corporate social responsibility (CSR), which encourages corporations to embrace responsibility for their actions and to support or protect consumers, communities and other stakeholders as well as the environment. Through research and interviews, I learned that incorporating CSR in public relations plans is a growing trend, as doing so adds dimension and a competitive advantage to corporations by publicizing their value systems, ethics and conscience. I also developed strategies and researched best practices for CSR public relations, which are unique and vital to ensuring organizations appropriately communicate, and consequently benefit from, their CSR initiatives. My enthusiasm for writing extends beyond my professional life. I have published short stories and articles outside the realm of public relations and of interest to the general public, and every so often participate in fiction-writing workshops.
My hometown is Warwick, R.I., a city near Providence. I love to run, ski and travel, and am also drawn to health and wellness, environmental issues, science and technology.
